Discover Volleyball Piombino
We met with Evio Vallini, president of Union Volley 2021 Piombino – Riotorto, to discover why volleyball is an ideal option for children and teenagers of all ages, even during holidays in Val di Cornia. The club, which has seen a 30% increase in members over the last three years, has become a reference point in the area, thanks to its collaboration with high-level coaches.
"I've been involved in volleyball for over thirty years," Evio Vallini tells us. "After holding the position of director and president of Volley Riotorto, I contributed to the creation of Union Volley Piombino - Riotorto, which represents a synergy between the two associations. Our goal is to foster the technical and personal growth of our members, both in the youth and competitive sectors."
In fact, two distinct clubs operating under the same “brand”:
- Brulotto Riotorto, which participates in the Regional D Series Championship and has an Under 16 and an Under 12 team
- UnionVolley Piombino, which participates in the First Division Basso Tirreno championship and has one U18, two U16, one U13 and one U12 team
Promoting Values through Volleyball
The club doesn’t just focus on technical training for its athletes, but also promotes important values such as collaboration and respect, which are fundamental for every member of the sports community.
"Our work is based on conveying values of cooperation and mutual respect," explains Vallini, "which we want to spread not only among athletes, but also among coaches, managers, parents and opponents."
Direct management of the M. Falci Sports Hall allows the club to support social initiatives for the local community as well.
"We collaborate with Unitre and dance associations to offer social activities dedicated to senior citizens," adds Vallini, highlighting the club's commitment to the local area.
Summer Camps and Volleyball Beginner Courses in Tuscan coast
During the summer months, at a holiday village in Piombino located 500 metres from the sea, volleyball camps for girls and boys are organised, both daily and weekly.
"Our volleyball camps are much more than just a camp!" Evio emphasises. "You can choose between the option with accommodation and full board, or the daily option, which excludes overnight stay and dinner. Both solutions include:

The club organises volleyball beginner courses for children aged 6 to 12. These courses, held by qualified FIPAV (Italian Volleyball Federation) coaches, provide the necessary foundations to continue playing at a competitive level.
"The courses are conducted by experienced coaches who prepare young people for a possible future in competitive volleyball, following the federation's guidelines," Vallini emphasises. "Moreover, in July, thanks to our collaboration with ASD Circolo Magona in Piombino, we also organise Beach Volleyball courses."
The club is actively committed to promoting the area as an ideal destination for sports and wellness holidays. By organising volleyball tournaments, the club brings teams from all over Tuscany and other regions of Italy, helping to promote these wonderful places.
"With our volleyball tournaments in Piombino, we bring teams from all over Italy, promoting its beauty and resources", Evio explains. "Every year, in May, we organise a mini-volleyball gathering in the splendid Piazza Bovio, where you can play while enjoying the wonderful view of Elba Island, with clubs participating from all over Tuscany."
Union Volley 2021 Piombino – Riotorto is also very active in non-sporting activities, organising parties with music and local food during the summer, creating a cheerful and engaging atmosphere for the community as well as tourists.
"We're also known for our summer parties, which create moments of socialising, thanks to evenings with musicians, artists and excellent Tuscan cuisine."

The M. Falci Sports Hall is just a few minutes’ walk from the historic centre of Piombino, has a large car park available and is less than a kilometre from the railway station. Moreover, from the sports hall, you can walk to the sea, the Castle, the Archaeological Museum of Baratti and Populonia and the splendid Piazza Bovio, from where you can enjoy the most beautiful view of Elba Island and the entire Tuscan archipelago of the Tyrrhenian Coast.
